چکیده

An integrated medium access control framework for a direct sequence code-division multiple access (CDMA) radio access to an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network is considered. The system accommodates multimedia services such as voice and data. The inherently high error rate associated with the multipath fading channel is partly overcome by the introduction of a data link control layer employing oneand two-dimensional CRC codes for error detection/correction in voice and data packets, respectively. Analysis and simulations show promising average delay and error probability performance, as well as low coding redundancy. Two-dimensional CRC, particularly in conjunction with automatic repeat request (ARQ), outperforms convolutional coding with much less overhead and processing requirement at the ATM-CDMA interface.

Wireless ATM Network Medium Access Control with Adaptive Parallel Multiple Substream CDMA Air-interface

One of the most important components of any wireless network is the medium access control protocol. This research deals with wireless ATM (WATM) medium access control (MAC) protocol. Conventional studies concerning WATM have focused mainly on variations of the time-division-multiple-access (TDMA) method for the wireless aspect of WATM networks. However, there are many advantages that the direct...

The random early detection concept applied to the W-CDMA UMTS medium access control

In this work we introduce the concept of Random Early Detection (RED) to a medium access control (MAC) protocol applicable to the W-CDMA UMTS access interface. The concept is in general applicable to MAC protocols that use channel load information to regulate the access to a CDMA channel. By making the analogy of a CDMA channel as if it was a queuing system of certain capacity, RED prevents the...

Performance of Traffic Scheduling for Wireless ATM Networks

In this paper, the concepts of the MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol and traffic scheduling in the radio interface, as are currently worked out in the ACTS Project Magic WAND (Wireless ATM Network Demonstrator) are presented. Since the MAC protocol is based both on reservation and contention techniques, it has been named Mobile Access Scheme based on Contention And Reservation for ATM, or MA...

Wireless LAN MAC protocols

The MAC (Medium Access Control) protocols can be roughly categorized into three broad classes [16]. The fixed assignment set will have schemes like TDMA, CDMA and FDMA. These protocols lack the flexibility in allocating resources and thus have problems with configuration changes. This makes them unsuitable for dynamic and bursty wireless packet data networks. The random assignment class consist...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
